Each copy is numbered, signed by the artist, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
PERSONAL NOTE: When I visited Palermo for the first time in the summer of 2021, I was completely swept away. I loved the energy of the city, the chaos, and the blend of cultures – it all captivated me.
One of the things I loved most was how, while walking through modest, unassuming streets, you’d suddenly stumble upon breathtaking monuments like Fontana Pretoria.
This fountain, with its incredible statues of mythological deities, harpies, and mermaids, never failed to stop me. It sits in the heart of the historic center, on Piazza Pretoria – called by Palermitani “Piazza della Vergogna” / Square of Shame. The nickname originally came from public outrage over the nudity of the figures, but also from the scandalous amount of money paid to purchase the fountain.
Originally built by Francesco Camilliani in Florence in 1554, the fountain was moved to Palermo in 1574 and reassembled in a different layout from the original design. I don’t know what that original version looked like – but what we can contemplate today is, to me, absolutely spectacular.
